An Important Update to the LitCon Lineup

Published On: January 13th, 2026 | Categories: General, Latest News |

We’re sharing an important update to the LitCon program, and while change is never easy, we’re confident this one still brings exceptional value to our community.

Due to health reasons, P. David Pearson has had to withdraw from this year’s LitCon keynote. We know many of you were looking forward to hearing from him, and we join you in wishing him strength, rest, and good health.

At the same time, we are truly honored to welcome Donna Scanlon as our new keynote speaker.

Donna Scanlon

Dr. Scanlon is a celebrated researcher, author, and educator whose work has shaped literacy instruction for decades. In her keynote, Set for Variability as a Component of Strategic Word Solving, she will explore how readers use flexible, strategic thinking to make sense of words—and why this process is essential for supporting developing and striving readers.

This session will dive into:

  • How set for variability supports word solving and reading comprehension
  • Why flexibility is a critical component of skilled reading
  • Practical implications for classroom instruction and intervention

Dr. Scanlon’s research-based insights and clear connection to classroom practice make this keynote especially relevant for educators, coaches, and leaders working to strengthen literacy outcomes for all students.

Thank you for your understanding, your continued enthusiasm for LitCon, and your commitment to advancing literacy. We look forward to learning together.
