{"id":2691,"date":"2019-09-04T14:51:34","date_gmt":"2019-09-04T14:51:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/readingrecovery.org\/success2019\/?post_type=avada_portfolio&#038;p=2691"},"modified":"2019-09-16T19:26:57","modified_gmt":"2019-09-16T19:26:57","slug":"brenda-rodriguez","status":"publish","type":"avada_portfolio","link":"https:\/\/myliteracycouncil.org\/success\/portfolio-items\/brenda-rodriguez\/","title":{"rendered":"Brenda Rodriguez"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"entry-meta \"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<p>In 2004-2005, Brenda Rodriguez enrolled in Amarillo Independent School District\u2019s Glenwood Elementary.\u00a0 After administering the Instrumento de Observacion, it was apparent that she was behind academically.\u00a0 She could write her name and knew the letter a. The principal, her classroom teacher, and even her parents considered placing Brenda in kindergarten so she could \u201ccatch up\u201d to her peers.\u00a0 Velia Martinez, Brenda\u2019s Descubriendo la Lectura teacher, strongly advocated that Brenda remain in first grade and be placed in DLL. \u00a0She began\u00a0Descubriendo la Lectura lessons that fall.\u00a0 Brenda was a bright little girl with excellent oral language, and she was determined not to return to kindergarten.\u00a0 She immediately began to make progress in both reading and writing, and\u00a0by Christmas her lessons were discontinued.<\/p>\n<p>Brenda continued to excel academically, and maintained\u00a0an A average at Caprock High School in Amarillo. Brenda was chosen from a pool of 200 students to participate in a very selective law enforcement program developed for high school seniors: the Randall County Sheriff\u2019s Student Academy.
