Part of the Monroe County Board of Education District, the school has successfully implemented Reading Recovery for the past 10 years and has been in the top 10% of Kentucky schools for the past 2 years.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<p>The school is in a rural, impoverished area of Kentucky; 85% of the school population 85% on free or reduced-price lunch and 34% of parents are illiterate or did not complete school.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA large part of our school&#8217;s reading success is attributed to Reading Recovery and Comprehensive Intervention Model (CIM) groups that help struggling readers in the primary grades catch up to where they need to be before progressing to the next grade level,\u201d said Tracy Hagan, Reading Recovery teacher\/CIM interventionist\/and K-1 literacy block coordinator at Tompkinsville. \u201cEarly interventions are the keys to continued reading success in the intermediate grades.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tompkinsville Elementary School was named a 2014-15 National Blue Ribbon School for outstanding progress in education.
